LEEDS UNITED BEATEN IN REPLAYED CUP-TIE

BOND SCORES TWO GOALS FOR BRADFORD CITY

WEST RIDING CUP - FIRST ROUND REPLAY

After their draw of one goal each at Leeds last Monday, Bradford City and Leeds United met for the replay at Valley Parade today. It was glorious weather, and about 10,000 spectators were present at the start. The teams were:

Leeds United: Down; Duffield and Rogerson; Musgrove, Baker and Walton; Thompson, Brock, Armitage, Powell and Wood.

Bradford City: Wilkinson; Potts and Boocock; Hargreaves, Storer and Duckett; Bond, Hibbert, Howson, McIlvenny and Rigby.

Leeds won the toss and immediately set up a strong attack, and Potts and Boocock each had to clear. Leeds were over anxious and Armitage shot wide. Then Bradford attacked but Leeds took command again and a mistake by Potts nearly let them through. Thompson the Leeds winger made a smart run, but was robbed near the corner flag. The play was erratic and misfielding and and poor kicking were frequent. Leeds came again and smart work by Powell and Armitage produced a fine opening, but Potts got his toe there in time to spoil Armitage's shot. Bradford once got into their opponent's goal, but the ball was scrambled away and Leeds continued to make rapid and dangerous raids. Potts and Boocock had plenty to do, but there was a lack of shooting, and Wilkinson was merely kept on the alert. Then Down cleared a Bradford rush with a mighty kick and a little later was called upon to clear again. Bradford were now getting more of the play, and the Leeds defence seemed a bit "rattled". Down again had to handle and then McIlvenny gave an old-time touch to a beautiful centre, which Down only just caught and cleared. Leeds came again, and Armitage got in a lovely cross shot, which, however, Wilkinson held and kicked away. Down once more had to clear from a tangle of players, and Hibbert was then prominent with a shot which went just over the corner of the net.

BOND FINDS THE GOAL

There were more indecisive exchanges, and Powell sent in a long dropping shot for Wilkinson to catch and kick away. Then followed exciting incidents at the other end. Hargreaves drove hard and true at goal, but Down cleared. Bond dashed up and sent in a stinger. The ball rebounded from Down and the Leeds defence gave a corner. Down again cleared, and then Rigby and McIlvenny also sent in shots which were got away. The end of an exciting few minutes saw Down temporarily stunned and dizzy. Just before half-time Bond scored. Down being completely beaten. Leeds retaliated strongly, but Powell made a hopeless mess of a splendid opening.

BEST SHOT OF THE DAY

The players continued without a rest and played quietly for a few minutes. Then Rigby got possession and smartly tricked the defence to send in the best shot of the day - a hard, low drive which brought Down to his knees. Down was getting a lot to do and after another clearance again had to have the attention of the trainer. From another Bradford raid Bond shot over. Rigby was again very smart and twice Down had to clear. Bradford were making the pace hot and their next raid brought a corner. It was fruitless, but such was the eagerness that there had to be a stoppage for injuries. Soon afterwards Bond took a free-kick outside the penalty area, but sent wide. Excitement rose again when Hibbert hit the underside of the bar. The ball bounced and the scramble resulted in a corner. It was cleared, and then McIlvenny returned and completely beat Down for a second goal for Bradford. Two minutes afterwards Bond headed in from a centre by Rigby. Leeds gained a corner but Woods shot well over. Within a few minutes of the close Rigby headed Bradford's fourth goal. This is Rigby's first goal for the City.
